Making Him Number One in 2021

At the beginning of every year, I often think of a theme for the year. I am not into New Year’s resolutions in the traditional way, but I like to set goals that often relate to the theme and encourage others to do the same. Last year, as cheesy as it is, 2020 Vision was my theme. It was about having a 2020 vision, a clear vision for life, a 2020 vision for myself, our business, and helping others to clearly see the vision for their life.

2020 was anything but clear! It was a crazy year filled with uncertainty, lockdowns, and political “war” unlike anything in recent history. For some, fear and anxiety were the major emotions, for others, it was a reevaluation of life and priorities. Everyone was affected in some way, nothing seemed clear.

So looking back, the better saying and theme could be that hindsight is always 2020! As time passes, I believe we will be able to look back at last year and see things more clearly, both on an individual level and also as a nation. This is my prayer.

Looking into 2021, the first thought that came to my head was it is going to be fun! I do believe that. I believe as truth is revealed, it is going to continue to be interesting, but in the end, we will all be grateful and better because of it!

However, that is not my theme for the year. My theme for this year is this, “Make Him Number One in 2021! God needs to be first in my life, not just in word but in action. He needs to be first in our nation again. Our country was founded on Godly principles, one nation under God! It is time for Christians to be leaders and that will happen when we make God number One.

Especially after last year, we all need hope and that hope comes in Christ alone. He is the only constant for any of us. Jesus said, “In this world, you will have trouble, but I have overcome the world.”

As much as there has been a political war raging, there is a spiritual battle as well. A battle of good vs evil, light vs dark. A battle for who or what is number one in our lives.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14

To make God my number one means that I seek Him every day, that I go to Him in prayer (constantly) when I don’t understand, when I am thankful, always. He is who I always run to!

It means letting Him guide my life and trusting in His plan, His ways.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33

It means to have an eternity mindset.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:2

It is easy to get distracted in life. I often start my day off right, in prayer or with my Bible, and then will go the whole day without talking to God again. I don’t want to do that anymore! How much am I missing because I am not open to His guidance? How I long for His presence!

Making Him number One is not a once and done. It is an every day, every hour continually process but the more I do it, the more you do it, the easier it will be. And the more we will experience God, the more we will see Him move in our lives and the more He can touch other’s lives thru us.
